Albany’s Nigeria week, over 28 October to 1 November, was comprised of two simultaneously conducted training workshops – one in Uyo, Nigeria, the other in London.

Two Albany directors and a regulatory consultant travelled to Uyo, Nigeria to deliver a Digital Media Regulation Masterclass to the National Broadcasting Commission of Nigeria (NBC).  The Albany team met with over fifty participants from a variety of offices and departments of the NBC over three days to discuss the country’s digital switchover, licensing, international best practice and online regulation.  Participants put theory into practice by breaking into groups and working through a series of hypothetical scenarios reflecting issues faced by the NBC.  As a key outcome of the event, Albany and the NBC together developed a concrete and specific plan of action that will move Nigeria closer to its goal of digital switchover by 2015.

These customised masterclasses take training to the next level by providing a unique interactive forum for group discussion and organisational analysis.  Albany brings to bear its many years of expertise and experience in regulatory matters to  resolve specific issues the regulator is facing.  Albany works with the regulator’s leadership and staff from across the organisation to develop plans of action to address these issues.  Please contact us if you would like to discuss how Albany can bring a specialised masterclass to your organisation.

The UK-based training was part of a package run by Thomson Reuters Foundation, involving communications and media training for 12 state government spokespeople and media advisors.  Flexible to meet the needs of the delegates, much of the workshop centred upon communication strategy, messaging, digital media and interview techniques.  The real world issues that provided the framework for practical sessions came largely from the issues surrounding the oil industry, corruption and national security.  A vibrant three days of instruction, discussion, debate and exercises proved not only to be highly appreciated but also highly enjoyable, for both instructors and delegates.
